MIT Technology Review En esta serie de artículos del MIT Technology Review, se analiza muy bien cómo la “economía de los datos” y los algoritmos potenciados por Inteligencia Artificial están contribuyendo a reforzar desigualdades que existen desde los tiempos del colonialismo europeo en países como Sudáfrica, Venezuela, Indonesia, o Nueva Zelanda.
“The AI industry does not seek to capture land as the conquistadors of the Caribbean and Latin America did, but the same desire for profit drives it to expand its reach. The more users a company can acquire for its products, the more subjects it can have for its algorithms, and the more resources—data—it can harvest from their activities, their movements, and even their bodies.”
“Neither does the industry still exploit labor through mass-scale slavery, which necessitated the propagation of racist beliefs that dehumanized entire populations. But it has developed new ways of exploiting cheap and precarious labor, often in the Global South, shaped by implicit ideas that such populations don’t need—or are less deserving of—livable wages and economic stability.”
The Atlantic Desde luego, que la maquinaria de desinformación de Putin tenga convencida a parte de la población rusa de que el genocidio que está cometiendo contra la población ucraniana es en realidad “liberarles de los nazis”, es un nuevo hito en lo que a fake news se refiere. Pero como comentan en The Atlantic, Putin está simplemente siguiendo a pies juntillas el manual de los dictadores soviéticos que le precedieron:

WSJ ¡Hablando de métodos de desinformación! Sobre Musk y Twitter, seguro que muchos nos seguimos preguntando si esta opa hostil es lo que pasa cuando un billonario tiene un calentón o está en plena crisis de los 40.
Aunque quizá, como se apunta en este artículo, la cosa es un poco más compleja, y Musk es uno más de un grupo de millonarios tech que, tras el baneo de twitter a Trump por instigar el intento de golpe de estado en el capitolio, trabajan activamente para que Twitter vuelva a ser el altavoz para la extrema derecha de USA.

Es curioso ver como Snap (anteriormente Snapchat), después de inventar el formato de video que conocemos como “Stories” y que sería copiado por todas las plataformas, se ha reconvertido en una empresa de productos de hardware (siempre relacionados con el vídeo o la fotografía). Históricamente, mujeres y minorías raciales lo tienen peor para encontrar trabajo o desarrollar negocios. Pero este estudio apunta a que actualmente, y al menos para el networking, resaltar en la comunicación género o raza (cuando están infrarepresentados), puede incrementar las probabilidades de recibir respuestas frente a cuando no se indica explícitamente.
Una posible explicación es que ahora estamos más concienciados de nuestros propios sesgos, y el ser conscientes de que estamos atendiendo a un colectivo infrarepresentado nos hace querer comportarnos mejor.
